The Census Bureau - in its 2010 headcount - is reporting that the U.S. Hispanic population grew to 43 percent, rising to 50.5 million in 2010 from 35.3 million in 2000. Latinos now constitute 16 percent of the nation's total population of 308.7 million. Latinos also now account for about one in four people under the age of 18, suggesting that Hispanic buying power will be on the rise in the coming decade.
Data suggests that the top U.S. Hispanic city is currently Los Angeles, California, however it is the southern states that are experiencing the biggest surges in Hispanic populations. The 2010 Census revealed that between 2000 and 2010, the states of South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas saw the largest rise in Hispanic population, in that order.
